China reiterates support for junta’s election

China has again reaffirmed its support for the junta’s election, with Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian saying China “respects the choice of the people of Myanmar” and supports the country in pursuing “a development path that suits its national conditions.” Responding to a question about the junta election commission’s announcement that the military‑backed Union Solidarity and Development Party had won by a landslide, Lin avoided addressing concerns about the credibility of the vote. Instead, he emphasized China’s long‑standing priorities: stability, reconciliation among “all parties,” and continued cooperation with the junta. Lin added that China would “continue to provide constructive assistance for restoring peace, stability and development in Myanmar,” signaling Beijing’s readiness to work with the post‑election political order regardless of international criticism.
