The chair of the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), U Khin Yi, announced that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has sent a congratulatory message to the USDP for its election victory, which was delivered through the Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, Ma Jia. U Khin Yi shared this information on his social media account. During a press briefing in Beijing on February 4, journalists asked how China viewed the USDP winning the majority of parliamentary seats in Myanmar’s election. In response, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated that China supports broad participation of political parties in Myanmar as an important factor for maintaining political stability, and said China would encourage and support Myanmar’s political parties. In addition, U Khin Yi and senior USDP leaders attended a Chinese New Year cultural performance held at the National Theatre in Yangon. In previous years, the event was typically attended by junta leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, but this year it was attended instead by Prime Minister U Nyo Saw. Min Aung Hlaing was absent because he was attending a separate ceremony at Yangon University, where he was awarded an honorary doctorate, followed by a special graduation dinner.
