Myanmar’s National Unity Government (NUG) Minister of Foreign Affairs, Daw Zin Mar Aung, met with members of the South Korean National Assembly to discuss strengthening diplomatic engagement and increasing humanitarian assistance, according to a statement released by the NUG Representative Office in Korea. The meeting took place at the National Assembly in South Korea on December 11. During the discussion, Daw Zin Mar Aung urged South Korea to condemn the Myanmar military’s planned election and to refuse recognition of any government formed through that electoral process. She also highlighted the humanitarian situation in Myanmar, noting that more than 3.6 million people have been displaced during the five years since the military seized power. In addition, she explained to lawmakers that the military continues to carry out airstrikes and that the humanitarian crisis is worsening. The statement said she also requested continued support and visa extensions for Myanmar nationals currently residing in South Korea. Members of South Korea’s Democratic Party, Rebuilding Korea Party, and Social Democratic Party were reported to have participated in the meeting.
