Ko Yan Naing Kyi Win, who was sentenced to 49 years in prison for posting anti-election posters in Yangon’s Hlaing Tharyar Township, has had his appeals rejected by the Insein District Court, which ruled that such cases cannot be appealed. Arrested in September and sentenced in a one-day trial in October, he is also facing additional charges under Section 505(a) for similar actions in Kamayut and Insein townships while detained in Insein Prison. His case highlights the junta’s harsh punishment of election opponents, with reports indicating that arrests now also include artists accused of resisting the military-run electoral process.
